I am both happy and sad to announce that my law partner, George C. Bower, Jr. will retire this month after practicing law in Anson County over 41 years.
26 years ago, my father, Fred D. Poisson, Sr., George C. Bower, Jr. and I formed Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC with the idea of furnishing quality legal representation to the citizens of Anson, Richmond, Stanly, Union and Moore Counties as a full-service law firm. At the time, I had focused my practice on workers’ compensation and personal injury cases after spending years doing everything from murder trials to domestic cases. Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC came into existence and has been rated AV, meaning that the firm is preeminent in skill and ethics.
George always had impeccable integrity and honesty and has been as fine an attorney as I have known. He has helped families close their house loans, helped them through the loss of family members by administering their estates and has advised them on business matters. For many years he was County Attorney for Anson County and served with distinction.
George has the quality of being able to listen quietly and then give advice. At the same time, George is quick-witted and humorous. George was born in Union County and was rooted in professionalism and outreach programs in our community serving on many boards including Habitat for Humanity. He administered the Braswell Trust that has done so much for our community. We thank you, George!
After George’s retirement, our firm will continue to practice under the shield of Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC, George C. Bower, Retired. We will continue to aspire to our motto “A Tradition of Service.”
Over the past quarter of a century, Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC has employed many young attorneys who have gone on to be assets in our community. These fine lawyers include T. Lynn Clodfelter who is now District Attorney for Stanly County; Honorable Sophia Gatewood Crawford, District Court Judge for Judicial District 16A; P. Kelly Dawkins, a criminal law specialist now in Moore County; Chrissy Farrell, a fine domestic lawyer in Wilmington; Katie Flinchum Scarborough who is now an Anson County Magistrate; and Whitney T. Scarborough who has opened her own practice in Wadesboro after eight years with our firm. I know George shares our pride in this achievement of giving to the community.
In 2004, my daughter, Stewart Poisson, joined the firm and tried civil cases with great success. She was fortunate to have been able to have tried several car wreck cases with her grandfather, Fred D. Poisson, Sr., known as “Mr. Senior.” She is now board-certified in workers’ compensation cases, as I am, and is known as one of the most skilled workers’ compensation and personal injury attorneys in the State. When my dad passed away in 2009, the firm remained Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC with George, Stewart and me. In 2014, my son, Davis, joined the firm and has, like his sister, proved to be exceptional in civil litigation, particularly cases involving injury. He has tried many cases to verdict and has obtained excellent results for his clients.
With George’s retirement, the Poissons will devote our practice to Complex Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Workers’ Compensation, Land Condemnation, Nursing Home Abuse, Product Liability and Wrongful Death law. Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC has come full circle, back to where I focused my practice in the early 1990s and will focus solely on representing injured citizens and workers in trial work and settlements. We have excellent staff to support us, and we are family.
So, George thank you from all of us for your service, friendship and your good name. You will remain a part of who we are and who we will become.
