Keitha Eddins joined Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC on October 22, 2018. With a background in health information management, she handles client medical record processes for personal injury and workers’ compensation cases.
Where are you from?
Marshville, NC
How did you come to work at Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC?
An employee at the firm who was aware of my background in health information management contacted me as the firm was searching for an individual to handle client medical records. Since I had just finished up a 38-year career in healthcare, I was hired to handle the medical record processes for personal injury and workers’ compensation cases.
What is your job?
My job is to manage all medical record processes for each client’s case. This includes initiating, follow-up and scanning records into each client’s file. My future goal is to make this medical record process more electronic to save paper.
What do you like best about helping people in this area of the law?
The medical information on our clients is pivotal in most cases. I feel when I’ve collected all of the medical information including visits, diagnoses, and the treatment clients have received, it allows our attorneys and case managers to manage each case to their client’s utmost benefit.
What is the hardest part of your job?
When healthcare providers/organizations aren’t turning the medical record requests over in a timely manner, I have the challenge of doing extra follow-up to get the information needed for attorney case review.
What is the craziest memory from your time with the firm?
A year ago today, my first day on the job, (although there have been more incidents since then….) I didn’t properly disarm the alarm system. It went off after I had been in the office only a few minutes. Needless to say,….it wasn’t pretty! However, I did learn that the police respond very quickly!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t at the office?
When I am not at the office I enjoy Bible study, playing the piano, digging in the dirt and spending time with my family, especially my 4-year-old granddaughter, Emerson, who I am holding in the photo above.
What is your best piece of advice for someone seeking an attorney?
I would advise someone seeking an attorney to research what type of attorney specializes in the situation they are facing and seek out an attorney that is certified. I think the certification (while maybe not required) will give someone the extra confidence to know the attorney has gone through additional training. Also, make sure you know which states the attorney is licensed to practice. Last, but not least, I would look for testimonials and/or reviews that show the integrity and compassion of the lawyer/law firm to ensure you are seeking the best counsel possible.
