If you Love Someone, Read This.

F. Davis Poisson, III

If I had one piece of legal advice for the citizens and residents of North Carolina, it would be to make sure you protect yourself and your family by spending a little bit extra every month and buy sufficient automobile insurance coverage including uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Too many times, I have seen people seriously injured because of someone else’s careless actions, and neither the at fault party nor the injured party has enough insurance coverage to compensate the injured person or pay the medical bills.

Why Pay More for Auto Insurance Coverage?

From my experience, people try to save a little money each month by buying the minimum amount of insurance that North Carolina requires which is $30k per person and $60k per accident. It only takes a split second for someone not to pay attention, cause an accident, and you or your family member could have $100k or more in medical bills. You could be out of work or permanently unable to work. If you and the at fault party only have $30k in insurance coverage then that is all there is to compensate yourself and pay back your doctors. Most families are not aware that they aren’t properly insured until something horrible happens. It’s better to protect yourself and your families now than to learn after it is too late.

How Much Auto Insurance Coverage Should You Have?

I recommend that everyone raises the amount of insurance on your personal vehicles to a minimum of $300k or even $1,000,000. The additional monthly expense is minimal maybe $15- $25, but the peace of mind knowing that your family and loved ones are protected is priceless. Please do yourself and your family a favor and contact your insurance agent to inquire how much it will cost to increase your automobile insurance coverage, especially uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This is one of the biggest problems I see in our community and our state and it can be prevented. Please share with your friends and loved ones.

Sincerely,
